Repeal of Statutory Invention Registration
Overview
Section 3 of the America Invents Act repeals Statutory Invention Registration (SIR). Before the AIA, SIR was utilized by inventors who did not wish to get a patent, but instead wanted to prevent others from obtaining a patent on the invention. Since the adoption of the eighteen-month publication procedure, the use of SIR has decreased substantially, and the America Inevents Act eliminated this tool for inventors.
Upcoming Events/Key Dates
The repeal of SIR becomes effective on March 16, 2013.
